Global Compact Asia Pacific Regional Conclave: 2010

India would be hosting the UN Global Compact Asia-Pacific Regional Conclave on 15th & 16th March 2010 at Ashok Hotel, New Delhi. The theme of the Conclave would be Enhancing Enterprise Value Through Responsible Business Practices.

Partnership Approach Towards Enhancing Sustainability of SMEs
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are one of the most important stakeholders within the United Nations Global Compact initiative. Globally many of the large companies participating in the UN Global Compact (UNGC) initiative have been playing a crucial role in supporting SMEs within their supply chain to adopt Responsible Business practices as part of their commitment to the UNGC principles. Establishing GCN Sub Committees
The Governing Council of Global Compact Network (GCN) has decided to set up 6 GCN Sub Committees during the current year as part of efforts to implement the GCN Strategic Plan for 2009 - 2015. The subcommittees are COP/Training, Membership, Strategic Partnership, Business & Human Rights, Anti Corruption, Principles of Responsible Management Education.

 

Change of name to Global Compact Network, India

Global Compact Society has now formally changed its name to Global Compact Network (GCN), to be in line with global practice.  The resolution was adopted unanimously by the General Body of Global Compact Society at its Annual General Meeting held on 29th June 2009 and then at an Extraordinary General Meeting held on 6th August 2009.

 

5th February 2009 : CEOs of leading Indian companies are expected to meet Prof. John Ruggie, UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Business and Human Rights, at New Delhi during a dinner meeting being organised by GCS in association with FICCI.

GCS Newsletter
The first issue of the GCS Quarterly Newsletter launched in the last week of August 2008.

 

Training Workshop on “''Implementing the UNGC Principles and preparing your Communication on Progress' at Mumbai. A one-day workshop on preparation of Communication of Progress was conducted by GCS at Mumbai on the 22nd of August 2008. 32 participants from 15 organisations took part in the workshop. Similar workshops are now planned at Kolkata and Delhi in the coming months.


Global Compact VI Annual Local Networks Forum (ALNF) - October 21-22, 2008, Bonn Germany
Bringing together approximately 150-200 participants representing Global Compact Local Networks (GCLN), Regional Support Centers, private sector, government and civil society representatives, the ALNF provides a unique platform for GC Local Network (GCLN) representatives to exchange experiences in addressing the challenges and opportunities faced by networks in their efforts to promote the Global Compact locally. More importantly however, the key function of the Forum is to seek input from GCLN representatives on key governance issues relating to Local Networks and the Global Compact initiative as a whole.
